This is the first course in the college-preparatory two-course sequence (MAT 0018 and MAT 0028) designed to prepare students for college-level mathematics courses. This course is a study of the basic skills and concepts of pre-algebra from the point of view of the college student who needs an understanding of pre-algebra. Major topics include operations with integers, fractions, decimals, percents, geometric figures and their measures (including application problems), and other pre-algebra topics.

This is the second course in the college-preparatory two-course sequence (MAT 0018 and MAT 0028) designed to prepare students for college-level mathematics courses. This course is a study of the basic skills and concepts of basic algebra from the view of a college student who needs an understanding of basic algebra. Major topics include operations on signed rational numbers, simple linear equations and inequalities in one variable, operations on polynomials (including beginning techniques of factoring), integer exponents, brief introduction to radicals, introduction to graphing, applications, and other basic algebra topics.

Кого и куда у вас там занесло?
A вообще ничего удивительного, я насмотрелась на студентов - будущих инженеров и экономистов, которые дроби складывать не умеют, во вполне приличных американских универах. Полагаю, что похожая ситуация всюду; нам же повезло получить абсолютно элитное образование, и мы до сих пор не вполне осознаем, насколько оно элитное.

Во втором семестре студенты учатся складывать дроби, включая отрицательные.
И за это они готовы заплатить до 40К в год.
Что-то тут неправильно.

Пардон если кого это смутило, я просто хотел сохранить ответ на вопрос "что знает американский студент".

Многим американским студентам действительно очень нужны такие курсы, потому что им "повезло" оказаться в какой-нибудь отсталой хай-скул, к которой они привязаны. Они часто и не виноваты, что их не научили складывать дроби. Но платить 40 штук??? 0.o В коммьюнити-колледже за 200 баксов научат тому же самому. А если студент официально "нуждающийся", то ваще бесплатно.
